Darab Hormozi, MD, FACS performs eyelid surgery for the residents of Randallstown, MD.

What Is Eyelid Surgery?

Medically referred to as blepharoplasty, there are several types of eyelid surgeries, including general upper and lower eyelid procedures, as well as surgeries to correct genetic issues in certain ethnicities that may cause vision problems. Procedures may include correcting deformities and reducing sagging or puffiness.

How Is Eyelid Surgery Performed?

Eyelid surgery is performed while the patient is under either a general anesthetic or an intravenous sedative. An incision is then made in an inconspicuous region to reduce the appearance of scars after surgery. Depending on the issue the surgery is meant to correct, muscles will be tightened, and fat or excess skin may be removed or repositioned.

After the procedure, the incision is closed with either sutures or surgical tape and is then dressed and treated with a specially formulated ointment. A patient can expect to return to normal activities within seven days, with a full recovery within two weeks.
