Darab Hormozi, MD, FACS performs eyelid surgery for the residents of Alexandria, VA.

What is eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the eyelids to create a more youthful appearance through reducing the signs of aging associated with that area of the face. The surgery can be performed on both the upper and lowers lids, as well as for reconstructive purposes to create desirable and functional creases or to reduce the appearance of hooded eyes.

How is eyelid surgery performed?

Performed under local anesthesia, eyelid surgery involves a small incision used to excise the drooping skin and unwanted fat deposits that make the lids sag or appear heavy. The incision is closed upon completion and generally leaves no visible scar.

Following the procedure, a special ointment and dressing combination may be used to speed recovery and healing. Bruising and swelling may occur but are generally mild and well-tolerated. Recovery time is usually less than a week.
