What Is a Facelift?

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that is used to reduce the signs of aging. It is used to reshape the lower third of the face by removing the extra skin of the face and stretching the remaining skin for a more youthful appearance. Growing in popularity with men and women, a facelift is the most extensive way to remove lines and wrinkles. Good candidates for the procedure include those in good general health who are psychologically stable and who have good skin elasticity and bone structure.

How Is a Facelift Performed?

Dr. Hormozi performs four different types of facelifts, and the type of facelift depends on the patient’s specific needs. The four different types of facelifts that are performed at our facility include a mini facelift, a mid facelift, a modified S lift, and a fat/stem cell facelift.

  • A mini facelift is performed under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis. After the local anesthesia is administered, small incisions are made near the patient’s ears. After the incisions are made, the underlying tissues of the face are repositioned, and excess skin is removed.
  • A mid facelift is also performed under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Once the anesthesia takes effect, discreet incisions are made, and the muscles and fat in the cheek area are repositioned. Positioning stitches are used to secure the tissues.
  • A modified S facelift is performed under local anesthesia for most patients. After the anesthesia is administered, S or modified S shaped incisions are made at the natural crease of the patient’s ears. The deeper tissues of the face are repositioned, elevated, and tightened. After the tissues are repositioned, the incisions are closed, and a bandage is applied to the area.
  • A fat/stem cell facelift is performed under local anesthesia. Fat is collected from the patient’s thigh or abdominal area. The fat is processed and mixed with plasma and injected under the skin of the face.
