As you age, your eyelids start to sag as a result of lost skin elasticity and muscle tone, as well as displacement of the underlying fat. Eventually, your eyelids cover part of your eye and new wrinkles and lines appear around your eyes, such as crow’s feet. Instead of seeing your sparkling eyes, people only notice that you look tired or even angry. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a procedure that helps restore the youthful appearance of your upper and lower eyelids.

Am I a Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

Dr. Hormozi may recommend blepharoplasty if you have the following:

  • Droopy and sagging eyelids
  • Lines, wrinkles, and creases around the eyes that are caused by the eyelids
  • Peripheral vision problems caused by sagging eyelids
  • Eye irritation caused by loose eyelids

What Is the Procedure for Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty may be recommended for your upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. For the upper eyelid, Dr. Hormozi measures the amount of excess skin and fat that needs to be removed, as well as the benefits of tightening the associated muscles of the eye area. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, and generally only local anesthesia is required. Incisions are placed in locations where the scars are not visible after you heal, and in many cases, the scars fade very quickly. An associated brow droop can be lifted and corrected through the same incision.

Lower lid blepharoplasty is also performed under local anesthesia. In most cases the fat is removed from an inside eyelid incision not leaving any outside scar. In some cases additionally the sagging check is lifted to rejuvenate the mid face through a small incision.

What Is the Recovery After the Procedure?

The recovery for blepharoplasty is relatively fast, and most patients experience little to no discomfort as they heal. You are not required to wear bandages and can resume your normal activities shortly after your procedure. You may apply cold compresses to the area to help minimize bruising and swelling, and after a few days, you may apply warm compresses to help with the healing.
